Write to: The Secretary, Roma Barua., Development Assessment Commission. G.P.O Box 1815. Adelaide. SA. 5001 and tell her this relates to development number: 850/V033/09
You need to say that Whyalla is an industrial city and Point Lowly is the only area of pristine environment for the residents to enjoy outside our city and it is our premier tourist attraction. The citing of the Port Bonython Fuels facility would further degrade our tourist destination and amenities available to the residents of Whyalla.
This area of South Australia is the Cuttlefish Coast, home of the giant Australia Cuttlefish and Point Lowly is their breeding ground. We do not believe Port Bonython Fuel’s profit should be put ahead of the Giant Cuttlefish. The development would damage their habitat and the threat of an oil spill, which could seriously damage the ecology of the upper Spencer Gulf, is too great.
Residents protest against refinery here.
Closing date: 7th July. Letters need to be written quickly.
