Protests over the attempt to rename the Point Lowly peninsula
More information here. Letter to Whyalla Council. Maps of the peninsula here. Protest map here.
Name Port Bonyton is an insult to Matthew Flinders and the residents of Whyalla. Its Port Weeroona!
The original name for the Santos Loading facility was Port Weeroona. This was the name unanamously supported by Whyalla residents in 1983 and was originally adopted until the Tonklin Liberal Government trampled on the Whyalla community and remaned it Port Bonython after the Santos Chairman, John Bonython.. This needs to be rectified and the name changed back to Port Weeroona. As for calling the whole peninsula Port Bonython, what an insult to Matthew Flinders. See the letter to Phil Cameron Whyalla CEO here. See who uses the name Point Lowly peninsula here. See the historical maps here.
