Go for Gold not Dust
I want to be as clear as possible about my view of support for the further industrialisation of the Point Lowly Peninsula.
We already have to live with SANTOS but that does not mean we have to accept more industry which will swing the balance against recreation, tourism and ecological health of the area.
There are alternative sites and anyone caring about the community health of Whyalla will want to properly investigate them. One of the alternatives, south of Whyalla, has deeper water and seems potentially to be a better shipping port than Port Bonython.
Anyone who accepts the industrialisation of the Point Lowly Peninsula without investigating alternative sites does not have the Whyalla community's total interest at heart and is prepared to accept second best. I cannot understand why any community minded person would want such a poor compromise as their first choice.
Allan Nield,

Lights back on
The Whyalla Council has turn the Point Lowly Lighthouse light back on with a dimmer yellow light
