Protestors picket BHP Billiton Expo
Westland Hotel, Whyalla. Friday 29th.

Making use of the BHP Billiton's consultation at the Westlands hotel last Friday, a steady stream of Save Point Lowly members delivered the message to BHP Billiton that the residents of Whyalla do not want a desalination plant at Point Lowly, what ever the outcome of the current EIS. However, South Australian government representatives, were of the opinion that the desalination plant would go ahead, but in a modified form that will address the issues arising from the EIS and community concerns.
Save Point Lowly members said that was not good enough, stating that the previous generation had allowed the Santos industrial plant to be built at Point Lowly and now the present generation was stuck with an ugly industrial plant that dominates the peninsula. This generation has not learnt the lessons of the past they said and now we are on the verge of leaving a bigger industrial blight on the peninsula for the next generation to endure. More details.
Determined Save Point Lowly demonstrators convey the no desalination plant message to BHP Billiton amid the sound of cars tooting encouragement as they passed. More
